How long company setup takes

The published service times are short. What stretches a Saudi setup is the paperwork between them, and one deadline that can void a registration you have already been granted.

Investment registration is 10 working days. Establishing the company afterwards is within 72 hours. A trade name reservation is listed at 10 days. The binding constraint is neither of those: it is the fee payment window after MISA approves you, and the requirement that your investment certificate is valid for at least 30 days when you incorporate.

Each step has a service time an official page will stand behind, and together they suggest a few weeks rather than a few months. That is genuinely the case for a straightforward services company whose documents are already in order.

The deadline that voids a registration

Once MISA approves your application it notifies you of the fee. Pay within 15 business days and you are fine. The requirements table in the same guide says 30 days. Either way the consequence is identical: the registration is treated as void.

Plan for the shorter of the two. If the approval arrives while your finance team is mid-quarter close in another time zone, a fortnight is not as long as it sounds, and a treasury payment to a new foreign beneficiary is rarely a same-day event.

What actually takes the time

None of it happens in Riyadh. Your parent company's commercial registration has to be certified by a Saudi embassy, your last financial statements authenticated the same way, and both translated. Where the parent of your parent is in a third country, the guide asks for that chain too.

For a British company whose group holding sits in Ireland, that is two embassies, one translator and a courier before anyone has opened a Saudi portal. Six weeks of document work followed by ten working days of processing is a realistic shape for a first entry.

Sequencing that saves a re-run

  • Start document attestation first. It is the long pole and nothing else depends on a portal.
  • Reserve the trade name early; it is cheap to hold and can be extended for a small fee.
  • Have funds ready before approval, not after, so the payment window is never the constraint.
  • Incorporate while the investment certificate has comfortable validity left, not at the edge of it.

After the registration is live

Incorporation is not the end of the sequence. The general manager's residence permit needs work permit, medical report and health insurance, and each of those has its own queue. Budget calendar time for the staffing phase separately from the company formation phase, or the two will be reported as one overrun.
